Detailed research into the two Northern Bohemian regions combines the environmental records (vegetation, fauna) of the Late Glacial and Holocene sandstone landscape in the context of the Mesolithic occupation. The archaeological fieldwork strategy in its second phase (2003–2015), including small-scale excavations, made it possible to gather the maximum information. Such findings not only served for scientific purposes but also became part of the general perception and protection of the unique landscape. The presented publication contributes to the discussion about the Mesolithic period on the European level: the settlement structure, hunter-gatherer adaptations and specialisations, unique anthropological finds, and finally a complex study of its demise and relation to the succeeding Neolithic period.
